Custom Slot Types allow you to upload your own images for use in your racks. If you don't see the equipment you need, you can simply upload your own image and select the size for the slot.
Users on all plans can upload unlimited public slot types while users on paid plans can also create private slot types only visible in their account or team.
If you don’t want to create your own slot, you can also submit a Slot Type Request from the support portal.
Create a New Slot Type
From the Rack Editor, open the “Slot” tab, then click on the “Type” field.
At the bottom of the dropdown, select “Create New Type”
Click “browse” or drag your file to upload box to select your image.
PNG, JPG, or JPEG files less than 1 MB are accepted.
Images should be clean, high quality, product listing style photos. For more guidelines, see the Why was my Slot Type denied? section below.
Use the cropping tool to crop your image if needed. We recommend removing rack ears from your image if they are present.
Give your new slot a descriptive name and set the number of rack units that your slot should fill.
If you are on a paid plan, you can choose whether or not to publish your slot type publicly.
Public slot types will be available once approved by moderators and can be used by anyone on Rack Manage. You will receive an email notification when your slot type has been approved or denied, or you can check the status of your slot type from the “Slot Types” page in the sidebar.
Public slot types will not count toward your plan’s slot types limit.
Save and upload your slot type.
Alternatively, you can upload a new slot type by visiting the “Slot Types” page in the sidebar and clicking the “New Type” button.
Publish Private Slot Types
📌 Available on Basic & Plus plans only.
⚠️ Once published, you will no longer own the slot type and will be unable to edit or delete it. It will no longer count toward your plan’s slot types limit.
If you already have a private slot type, you can also publish it to make it a public slot type.
From the “Slot Types” page, click the three dots button next to the slot you want to publish, then select “Publish”.
Wait for your slot type to be approved by moderators. You will receive an email notification when it’s moderation status has changed.
Deleting a Slot Type
If you have a private slot type that you no longer want, you can delete it so it will no longer count toward your slot type limit
From the “Slot Types” page, click the three dots button next to the slot you want to publish, then select “Delete”.
If the slot type is currently being used in any racks, the slot type cannot be deleted. Please change the type of your existing slots or remove them from your racks before deleting the slot type.
Why was my Slot Type denied?
If your slot type was denied by moderators, this could be for any reason including:
The slot name is not descriptive/accurate
The slot size is incorrect
The image is low quality/inappropriate
A duplicate/similar slot type already exists
Examples of low quality / inappropriate images include but are not limited to:
Anything that cannot be mounted in a rack, including desktop switches, routers, etc.
Off-axis images
Poorly cropped images
Low Resolution Images
Watermarked Images
Images of custom / personal equipment
